This stovetop has 3 size burners 11”, 6” and (2) 7” diameter. If you put a smaller pot on say the 6” spot then only the section of the pot that’s in contact with the burner heats up. HOWEVER, Samsung’s users manual states: “Use proper pan sizes. This appliance is equipped with surface units of different sizes. Select pots and pans that have flat bottoms large enough to cover the surface area of the heating element. Using smaller cookware will expose a portion of the heating element to direct contact and may result in the ignition of clothing. Matching the size of the pot or pan to the burner will also improve efficiency.” That said. I put a 2.5 quart pot with 4 cups of cold water in it (with a bottom of 7”) pot on the 11” burner and put it on boost setting. The water was at a rolling boil at 2 minutes 8 seconds. The stove surface around the edges wasn’t even barely warm even directly on top of the burner surface. Logic says you could put a 3” pot on a 6” burner with similar results.
