“How does 3D affect normal viewing patterns/habits? I'm not really interested in a 3D option & was wondering if this is something that can be turned off & on? There are so many other items that make this particular model of interest to me and I've been shying away from all other models that offer 3D. Can you educate me in the advantages/disadvantages of purchasing a model offering 3D? Thank you.”

FC, The 3-D panel requires a faster panel, which is a benefit for both regular 2-D, and it gives the ability for 3-D. If you never use 3-D (and it's true - some people NEVER use it!) , you'll still have one of the faster panels which translates into better picture quality for both formats. Now, it won't show 3-D unless you either play 3-D content, or turn on the feature for regular programming. There are 3-D specific Blu-Ray titles that are actually fun to watch - get one and try it out. But if you don't like it, it will behave just as good as other high-end televisions. So yes, it can be turned OFF and never used if you prefer, and you'll still get all the benefits and advantages that you're looking at in this model. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The 3D feature doesn't effect normal 2D viewing at all. It's only 3D if you have 3D content and then only if you turn it on. I've never used the 3D glasses and probably never will and there's no picture quality loss just because it has 3D capability.

Please try again later.There is a setting for the TV to automatically detect when 3D content is going to be viewed, however, I did not turn this feature on as I am not really interested in watching 3D as the active glasses give me a headache after watching 3D for an extended time. I turn the 3D function on if I ever watch a 3D movie. And yes, if you leave the 3D function on, it will affect watching your normal non-3D content.

This model uses active 3D glasses where the shutters open and close very fast you don't even notice it to the human eye. The glasses also require batteries but you can find rechargeable ones that last for a long time before having to recharge them.

Otherwise the TV works like any other, except a 3D picture panel is of higher overall quality than the 2D models. This is why I bought the 3D too. I wanted the higher quality video panel, but rarely watch 3D.
