A:Answer FC,
The 3-D panel requires a faster panel, which is a benefit for both regular 2-D, and it gives the ability for 3-D.
If you never use 3-D (and it's true - some people NEVER use it!) , you'll still have one of the faster panels which translates into better picture quality for both formats.
Now, it won't show 3-D unless you either play 3-D content, or turn on the feature for regular programming. There are 3-D specific Blu-Ray titles that are actually fun to watch - get one and try it out. But if you don't like it, it will behave just as good as other high-end televisions.
So yes, it can be turned OFF and never used if you prefer, and you'll still get all the benefits and advantages that you're looking at in this model.
If we can help further, let ask and we'll be happy to answer.
