“Does the Samsung have weird requirements ( like the LG) that.require you to sign away any privacy you might have in order to mirror from mobile phone, etc? We’re considering giving away our new 70” LG because of ridiculous requirements”

You have to create an account in tizen to be able to use the smart features via mobile phone. Nothing caught my attention with the privacy part though that couldn’t be disabled in the privacy section of the menu
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Not that I saw. If you use an Apple device you can use Airplay and clone your screen from an iPhone or ipad no additional requirements needed. You can also use Smart Things hub or Chomecast. Personally I don't leave those functions to the internal components of my TV most of the time. I test it in case I want it, but even a Chomecast with Google TV generally has a better interface than any TV manufacturer. If you have Apple Devices spending the extra money for a 3rd Gen Apple TV 4K is honestly worth the price. I use an NVIDIA Shield TV Pro because my surround sound system is picky and the Shield TV supports more audio formats, but the interface on the Apple TV is much nicer and definitely an improvment over the Smart TV OS for either Samsung or LG.
