Weather you use the three-prong or 4-prong cord will depend on what the electrician installed in your home for the dryer. Both are acceptable and compliant with code. If you have a 3-prong receptacle and want a 4-prong cord, you will have to hire an electrician to upgrade the receptacle. And vice-versa. Look at the wall where the receptacle is and count if it has three or four holes. Then, order the appropriate cord for your dryer.
