It should work just fine. I cloned the HDD in my 17 inch I7 MacBook Pro (5 years old) and I'm really pleased with the Boot and overall performance. While my MacBook ran really hot during use (top and underneath), it is running much cooler to the touch on top but still just as warm on the Bottom. I would say that is an improvement and I feel I have given new life to my MacBook.
