• The SAMSUNG 860 EVO SSD is a 2.5" (7mm thick) SATA III (6Gb/s) SSD and is a direct "bolt-in" replacement for any 2.5" mechanical SATA III HDD using whatever mounting brackets/screws that are already in place. A mounting kit would be required to replace a 3.5" form-factor HDD. You will LOVE the performance/price of this drive as well as it's silent operation and low power/low heat output! The 1TB version has 8x the expected longevity as the 500GB version, so it more than justifies the additional up-front cost. And the recent price drop made this SSD a no-brainer decision for me to replace the mechanical HDD in my new computer, right out of the box!

• Based on specs, its 7mm in height, so if your laptop has a 9mm currently, then you need a a plastic adapter that fits atop this 7mm SSD, I went to crucial.com and picked a random Acer Aspre R15 and it recommended a 9.5 mm adapter.

• If you currently are running a sata hard drive it should work.
