It can be used for desktop, I have just build one desktop with this ssd and the performance was great.

However you will need to buy a mounting bracket for the 2.5 in to 3.5 in ssd to fit in the hard drive slot in your desktop. This bracket usually sells for $10 or less. I have done this myself on my desktop. It is not difficult to do.
