As long as you have an extra SATA cable and SATA power cable in your desktop this will work fine. The only other issue would be a place to mount it. Unlike traditional HDD they do not have to be sitting perfectly Vertical or Horizontal.

No desktop uses a different type of drive a thicker type.

You can install them in a desktop. You will probably want a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter bracket to hold it in place.

I use one of these in a desktop. It uses standard SATA 3 connectors and works great.
