Yes you can do it that way or just put it back in the computer and transfer your data to the ssd.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My answer is yes. I was able to recover 100% of data files, calendar, contacts, photos, music, and emails. The old drive seems to be pretty much 100% intact apart from the boot sector. Of course you might not be so lucky. Connecting the old drive as a USB drive works fine although it is quite slow. But I think you will find it worthwhile if you can recover at least some of your old data.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you even THINK your hard drive is damaged, the best thing you can do is to take it to a professional computer repair shop for an assessment. Referral to a Data Recovery Specialist/Company may be warranted. If you want to risk it, you can try to copy over your personal data with a USB/SATA adapter, but if you run into issues with a file or files not transferring, then STOP to prevent further damage to your drive and potential loss of EVERYTHING on the drive. Yes, it could happen just that way. YMMV. Good luck!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you suspect your hard drive of being damaged you have basically two choices: 1) I the damage is significant, you may have to simply replace the drive. I would suggest with an SSD. 2) If the computer does not boot, but you think the drive may be readable I would take the drive out of the computer and then use a SATA to USB interface and plug the USB cable into a computer that works and then try to read the data. The SATA to USB interface should be available from most computer stores, and even Best Buy. They also don't cost a lot, but can prove very valuable. Of course, it is always a good idea to backup your computer on a regular basis. If you are using Widows, then it is also a good idea to have a copy of your Product Keys so you can reinstall the operating system and Office programs without having to buy them again!
