• I just make sure the lid is up and stable. When it's secure, I can even bend into the washing machine to pull out stuff and it hasn't closed on me yet.

• The lid should stay up when you open it. I didn’t have to hold it when I unload the clothes from the machine.

• I connect the brown (I don't know what they call it) thing to the lid. If you bump it, it will fall. Just don't bump it. If it is connected and does fall it will close slowly.
