I would only buy a fully unlocked phone if you want the freedom to switch the SIM easily, but typically, that means you have to pay more for the phone. My husband does that with his because he uses it often for work and sometimes having a dual SIM slot makes that easier. Overall though, if you're fine with the plans Total Wireless offers and you live in a region with Verizon towers, you should get great signals. I have this exact phone (locked to Total Wireless) and it's been excellent so far.
