“Bought my phone from best buy at retail price today, but was told I wasn't eligible for free gift because I didn't activate my phone with them. Is this correct. The website has no stipulations about an activation to recieve free gift.”

Samsung made the gear fit 2 or Microsoft card offer NOT the carriers. If they don't honour Samsung offer contact Samsung and if they don't give you the deal return the phone. If you paid full price for it you overpaid anyway.
