MetroPCS phone is a locked CDMA version which is not a GSM. that is why Metro version is cheaper because it is not unlocked. You will only be able to use it on MetroPCS network. The unlocked version will work with any GSM carrier within the north america. However you will not be able to get 4G LTE on the unlocked one. The best connection speed you will get is H+ (which is basically same as 4G, but not the 4G LTE). Good luck.
