Yes. You own the phone after 24 months. I was told that if I wanted, I could pay off the phone after the first billing cycle by calling Sprint and telling them what I wanted to do. You definitely pay less in the long run. I'm not sure about porting your mom's number, but I'm sure if you ask, they can help you with that.

You can pay the remainder at any time and pay extra whenever you want to pay it off quicker. I believe you can transfer numbers to a different carrier. I’m not exactly sure on that having never done it before.
