• The fundamental difference: A tablet can't make phone calls. Well, it *can* if you download Skype ... but the broader point: This tablet connects via WiFi - so if you're on the move (in a car, say), you're outta luck. Phones use the cellular network, meaning you generally have connectivity.

• This can not be connected to a mobile network, since it does not have a SIM card slot. It is 8" compared to other smart phones which are between 5.5" and 6". This is also active so it is can take the drops and spills.
