Yes, you can receive and make phone calls and texts. However, you will still need your phone near by. Text messages can be received/sent right from the watch, while with phone calls, you will need to use either your phone or a bluetooth headset with the watch, as it has no speaker. Let me just say that I believe for the price tag on this, even without having the speaker built in, you will not be disappointed. I know, I was a bit bummed about it at first, but after thinking about it, I almost always have these devices on me anyways. You still get a lot of the same features as the galaxy watch for a lot less. So well worth it. I hope this helped you out.

You can receive and respond to texts with this watch. It's great for this purpose. It gives you the option to write out words with your finger and the text appears just like a normal text message. I find it to be very accurate. You can also use the on-screen keyboard to type out texts. This watch does NOT have a speaker built in, so you'll need to pair the watch with a bluetooth headset if you wish to take calls and talk. Incoming calls do appear on the screen and you're given the option to answer or reject them. If you answer them, you have to pick up and talk through your actual cell phone.

This is part of the Active line of smartwatches. So you will not be able to use it as a mouth piece. You can answer calls, but you will need to use your handset or bluetooth headset to talk. You can return text messages though.
