Yes you can download music to the watch and listen to it independently of your phone, you can also remote control the playing of the music on your phone via Bluetooth. Also if you have a service like Spotify and you are on LTE, you can stream music without downloading anything and without your phone. For any of these options, you will want a pair of headphones connected to your watch.
