• yes, you can download 1 gigabyte of music on the watch and listen to it without the phone being near. I use mine to go running. I've got 250 songs on my phone and created a playlist of 45 songs that I downloaded to my watch that i listen to while running- i leave the phone behind.

• Yes, you must transfer the music that is stored locally (not on Spotify, Pandora, etc...) through the Galaxy Wear application that gets installed upon connecting this device to your smartphone.
