Nope You can use volume control from the TV remote, soundbarr remote or Apple TV 4K remote My soundbar turns on/off with my TV automatically Even when the APPLE TV 4k turns off after long hours of inactivity while playing on xbox, the volume control on the soundbar can still be controlled with the Apple TV 4K remote

If connected to the TV via HDMI, and the Apple TV remote can control the TVs volume, it will also be able to control the volume of the soundbar. ^Tim
