This is by far above and beyond for gaming, if thats what your looking for then go for it. The kid will will love it. Yes you need a computer or gaming system to run anything. I suggest a quality laptop, because it can double for gaming or school or hobbies or maybe the kid will want to stwrt a business. Pair this monitor with a great laptop and you will get rhe best bang for your buck!
