This unit and the R7040 has cliff sensors to prevent it from falling. So far, they work well.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has never fallen down mine and we have nothing blocking them.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has a built in automatic stair drop. When it reaches the stairs it automatically stops and backs up.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The vacuum does have a stair sensor. With ours, every time it approached the stairs it stopped and turned away so it worked well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Stops on its own
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It does detect stairs. We blocked off our staircase the first time we used it upstairs, just in case. The next time we tried it, we let it do its own thing and it detected the stairs. So, now when we put it up there we just start it off in front of the stairs and let it go. We come back upstairs when its done and its usually just sitting there, at the top of the stairs, nicely waiting for us. It's a pretty cool little vacuum.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Included with the vacuum is a roll of magnetic sensor tape. You place that across places you do not want it to go. It will sense that tape and no go beyond that.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mine was found stuck on the stairs a few times.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It comes with a barrier, but it should stop before it goes off your stairs.
