Most AT&T smart phones have a mini or a micro sim. The Rugby has a standard sim, which can be 'cut' to fit the smaller slot on some phones. If you are moving from a standard sim phone to the Rugby, should not be a problem, If you go to AT&T they may charge activation just to move the sim.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You might need to have ATT get you a SIM that is the right size, my old LG phone used a full size SIM, and this phone uses a mini SIM. Even if you have a contract with ATT they will swap to the SIM you need for this device. The unlocked feature will not be any problem, it allows you to use a SIM from any service provider, so you can use it with the existing contract. Make sure the ATT technician that creates your new SIM (if needed) copies all the information you had on your old SIM.
