• No. You need a smart things hub, hard wired to your network, and you need an internet connection. The hub communicates with the sensor using the ZigBee wireless protocol.

• The sensor it self does NOT require WiFi as they are Z-wave, however the required HUB will require WiFi to operate correctly.

• No, wifi in terms of 802.11a/b/g/n etc is not required. The smartthings hub works via ZigBee/z-wave which is its own wifi mesh network. All that is required is an internet connection.

• Yes. You need a WiFi connection for your SmartThings hub then you can connect to the sensor via z-wave.
