• Yes you need the hub. You could use a Dlink sensor or iDevices that work via the cloud but you will have a delay.

• you will need a hub otherwise it won't be able to communicate to your phone app. This s not a wifi module so the hub is there to make the pipe between the sensor and your router to your phone via internet.

• You need the hub too because the mutlipurpose sensor works with the hub via wifi which then sends the alert to you via the cellphone apps.
