You will need the Samsung Smart Things Hub ($99.99), the sensor and internet connection. It will not require a monthly cost. Just some internet videos of how to configure it, and you can send text messages or App notification to your phone any time the sensor opens, sense a Vibration or a change in temperature. .

If you need to keep track of someone, you may also want to consider their Arrival Sensor which can tell whether someone is near the hub or not (within about 100 - 200 feet). The arrival sensor can be attached to keys, placed in a pocket, etc. and is about the size of a car fob and very light. You will need an internet connection, but no additional monthly fees. I'm still amazed at all the things it can do. For your situation, you can have any sensor send a message to your phone, you will get a notification anywhere you have wifi/cell service, so you could be at work and know that a door was opened/closed or an arrival sensor entered/left the area. You could also attach cameras to the hub.
