Great question, MoMo! While you can still control the Smart Bulb manually from a switch, the switch must be in the 'On' position in order to control the Smart Bulb from the App. There is also a SmartThings Button available that can be used like a switch to control the Smart Bulb and/or other compatible smart devices. Please note that the SmartThings Smart Bulb does require the SmartThings Hub. Thank you! ~Samsung Brand Ambassador
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can certainly use the switch on a lamp for example to turn it off or on. Or you could use a Google Home or Amazon Alexa to turn it off and on. You don't need to use the app. I however have used the app to set up a schedule for the bulb to come on at say 5:30pm every night and then shut off at 11pm. Just offering some options for you.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's a smart bulb so it would be needed to turn it off using an app or smart speaker integration. All smart bulbs are like this. If you shut the circuit off and back on it will turn on but you're going to need to use the app to turn it off again if you want it to be smart. If you want to use a switch, you should buy a smart switch instead.
