Use a display port cable from your pc and a usb-c to hdmi cable from your Mac and it will work. You’ll need to either use PIP (picture in picture) or change inputs but won’t need to mess with the wires.

You can scale the resolution all the way up and don't have to worry about 4k coming in true with the various HDMI cable options out there. Look up the UNI brand USB C to DisplayPort (4K@60Hz) cables, they will say "compatible with MacBook Pro 2018/2017", they are not expensive.
