The SmartThings Water Leak Sensor does require the SmartThings Hub to connect to the SmartThings App. The SmartThings Hub can also connect a wide variety of smart devices from many different manufacturers. • No, this sensor would talk to the Smart things hub and then in turn, send the alerts to your phone. So you would need the hub to make it work.
