“What disk format comes on the drive and can this drive be reformatted into APFS or MacOS Extended for the MAC?”

• I do not recall the original formatting. However, I plugged it into a USB port on my 27" Mac with OS Catalina, and it immediately backed up my data with Time Machine. Later, when I shifted to OS Big Sur, it continued to function flawlessly.

• Yes it can be formatted for Mac extended. I dont remember how it came formatted but I formatted mine for extended.
