You dont need it to work the GoPro but i would suggest it for better recording anf better response from your camera. It makes the GoPro very fast and no lag.

Yes you need a Micro Memory Card for your GoPro to store footage. The higher write speed allows you to film in 4K

You need a micro SD Card to capture images or video on a GoPro. The GoPro does not have a hard drive to hold the amount of images and video you plan to take. It does not need to be this specific brand, but I do recommend it for it's quality of capturing video.

No, but what would a GoPro, camera, or mobile device be without a storage device? It's pointless otherwise, I guess you could stream the feed to your phone's GoPro application. What exactly are you attempting to do here?

YES! I was using a SanDisk ULTRA which just did not have the speed and caused intermittent failures.

Yes, you need this for the GoPro to record and store the recorded files. The GoPro may or may not come with a micro-SD card. If it doesn't, then buy a micro-SD card. I prefer the SanDisk micro-SD cards, but other brands are also good. It depends on what the quality of video you will record on the GoPro, whether it's 1080p 30fps, or 1080p 60fps or even 4k.
The Sandisk Extreme micro0SD card should cover all three.
