• No, it charges from the usb plug, you can use any compatible usb wall charger, or just charge it from your computer.

• My older Sansa Clip 4GB charges via the USB cable. Two caveats: 1. The computer must be running, not asleep (not a big deal for a desktop machine, but something to be aware of for a laptop), and 2. Windows Media Player 11 (specifically 11) must be installed on the computer for the Sansa Clip to even charge.
