Hi JH, The cutout size for the SANUS 17" In-Wall Box should be 17" W x 14.3" H. This allows the box to fit snugly between standard 16" on-center studs. Be sure to use the included template for the most accurate fit. Let us know if you need help with the install! Thanks, SANUS Support
