• This is not a hard drive. It is an enclosure to hold a hard drive that you already have, or, to hold a new hard drive that you want to use as a back-up drive.

• Yes it will, and it will make a substantial increase in speed. Look to iFixit.com for a guide on how to replace your stock 2.5" hard drive with this one. I'd recommend considering at least the 480-500 GB version of this (or any other) SSD as replacing the drive on a 21" iMac is moderately difficult and you dont want to run out of space in a year's time and wish you would have installed a larger capacity.
