No, this does not have a built-in cache.

You can use it for everything else but it will be slow, as fast as USB3 will allow... Look into SSD drives for caching or if your computer is new enough you can utilize Intel's 16 GB NVMe™ Intel® Optane™ Memory for storage acceleration is awesome!!!
