Great Backup Device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While purchasing other items at Best Buy I saw this item on the shelf and realized its potential. Cloud backup is slow and restore is equally slow. This device gives me 8 Tb of storage and backups and restores are relatively fast. Having 2 USB ports, it also allows me to backup from 2 devices simultaneously.

The Best 8TB Drive!! Huge Capacity, Small Price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the best Hard Drives I have had, this Seagate Has 8TB of data which about 7451GB is Free Available Space (if it's in NTFS File System) I have had it for a year now and It's still going strong. If you have a lot of data to back up and want the biggest Hard drive, you should get this one, this drive uses a power brick which is not portable ofcourse but you get a Huge Capacity. The Speed it's Good, I usually get around 30-70 MBs/Second while backing my data from other drives. It has a light indicator, but it's only to let you know if it's On/Off. Notes: The Drive takes some 5-8 seconds to load when first plugged in, but that's normal, don't worry, and when you disconnect it from your PC it takes about 10 seconds to fully power off so you can safely move it around. The noise is not big so it's quiet, and the two USB ports on the hub are great to charge devices. ****One Huge advice: If you decide to buy this Drive, know that you are getting a great drive BUT DON'T rely on it enterely, like you should have at least another place where your data is backed up too, just in case this one fails unexpectedly, since most Hard drives will fail eventually (statistics say that most drives will last 2-3 Years or even more depending on their use and care), so you should get another drive to back your data, not only this one. That's the best recommendation I could offer you, take care of your Data by having it copied in at least 2-3 different places. This would be the best way to protect All of your precious Data: Have a copy of all your data on: 1: This or any other Hard Drive/SSD. 2: A Second Hard drive, with the same Capacity. 3. A cloud (Internet) backup in case of a fire, earthquake, robbery, etc. That's the best Backup Plan I can give you, other than that, enjoy this huge 8TB Seagate Hard Drive :)

Easy to use, tons of storage
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I neede something that provided a lot of storage, was reliable, and easy to use. This fit the bill. I wanted to back up my photos, videos, and music libraries that I've amassed over the years, and I was looking for a hard drive that offered the capacity that I needed now, but also had room for more in the future. At 8TB, this more than fit the bill. I did my research, and this brand has a good track record of reliability. I got this on sale, which made it an even sweeter deal. :) Very happy with this purchase.

Good backup storage value
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted a good local backup solution with lots of storage. The Seagate - Backup Plus Hub 8TB fits the need. Easy installation, USB 3.0 speed, 8TB of NTFS space immediately recognized on my Win 10 computer. While it's great for backup, note that this is not appropriate for heavy R/W usage because the overlapping track layout means that adjacent tracks must be rewritten when new data is written. Also doubles as an all-in-one data hub and recharging station.

Lots of Storage + USB Hub
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an 8TB external drive. I can finally merge several smaller drives into one drive. However it is only 5400rpm so it isn't a very fast drive. But for archiving and offloading files from my internal SSD, it works just fine. There is no ON/OFF switch so you cannot turn it OFF at will. it goes OFF when my laptop is either in SLEEP or HYBERNATE mode. I am not using any of the secure access features, Just using it as external storage/backup drive. The 2 USB ports on the front come in handy and I can connect my other external drives to it. Overall, this is a very nice 8TB external storage, especially for the price I paid ($167) during Thanksgiving Week. Best Buy shipped it super fast. I got it in my hands less than 48 hours after I ordered it online.

Solid product, good price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I store a lot of phographs in both jpg and raw formats. The previous 2 years, I bought 5 TB drives, but bumped it up to 8 TB this year. I had it several weeks, and no problems, and over 2 TB of data is on the drive.

Q: QuestionWill it work with a PS4?
Asked by B20.
- A:Answer NO! This will NOT work on a PS4, I am sitting in front of my PS4 now trying it and it will not accept it because it has a HUB, you want the version without a HUB! You will get an Error message that says it will not work, then you will be given a list of HDD requirements for it to work, which this drive meets, except for the Hub. I tried it plugging in and letting it do it's thing and I tried reformatting before plug in, neither work. Get the one WITHOUT the HUB. On Sony's website I believe the fine print mentions this too, which sucks, plus they have a disclaimer that not all hdd will work. Sucks after Spending so much.

Q: QuestionWhy does one of the pictures show it on the computer desk with no cords plugged into the electricity nor a laptop so other devices can wirelessly access it? The only cord is charging something.
Asked by Gracie.
- A:Answer Let's start by reiterating that this is NOT a wireless device but a device being displayed without wires. Welcome to the wonderful world of promotional advertising where things need to look as appealing as possible regardless of functionality. In this case, the photo is selling you on the fact that you can plug your phone into the front of the drive to charge or interact with it via the built-in USB (*feature*). Cables running out the back and disappearing behind the desk would draw your attention away from this feature and remind you that, yes, this DOES, indeed, cause desktop clutter and that you'll need an open plug on a power bar or outlet to power it and a USB plug on your computer for data. Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't cut the power cable off of the lamp, too.

Q: QuestionIs this compatible with Xbox One?
Asked by Faolan.
- A:Answer Yes, should work w/no hitches, although it will take 500 gigs away from your external drive to download the operating system compatibility for it, I have AWD 5 terabyte external hard drive and this is something that is never mentioned the fact that when you buy a large over 2 terabyte hard drive that in order to transfer all of the content seamlessly it has to essentially download a clone of the operating system from the console and that takes up some serious space but 8 terabytes you'll never ever have to worry about space even if you have three to four people on your console

Q: QuestionWhat RAID level? Does it use drive mirroring in case one drive fails?
Asked by IanS.
- A:Answer This is a single unit drive enclosure so there is no RAID redundancy.

Q: QuestionCan it save Mac and Windows pictures or videos at the same time ? or does it have to be formatted to one system ?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer It's pre-formatted for Mac. Windows uses NTFS and Mac OS uses HFS and they're incompatible with each other. However, you can format the drive to work with both Windows and Mac by using the exFAT filesystem. Prior to use, I would recommend reformatting the drive in exFAT.

Q: QuestionCan this be used as a hard drive and not as a backup device? Can you install and run programs on it and also store data on it?
Asked by superchango.
- A:Answer Yes, yes and yes. I use mine to store videos. It doesn't force you to mirror-backup anything. It is just "Drive F:" in 'My Computer'. I think it is only 7.2 TB or something instead of 8 terrabytes, which is always disappointing. But every brand does that.

Q: QuestionI have a Desktop with Win. 7 & 16GB Ram, (4) 2 TB HDs (Drives C, D, H & J) with this External HD, is there a way to partition it so I can copy all drives over to this one drive. Then transfer the programs I use over to a New Desktop with Win. 10?
Asked by Mark.
- A:Answer Sure. To make partitions you just need a partition program, and there are plenty of free and paid programs available if you search online. It's been about 3 years since the last time I used one, so I don't feel informed enough to make a suggestion, but there are guides and lists that explain the pros and cons of many partition programs. However, for the purposes of transferring to a new computer you should check Microsoft's guide for doing so. Some of your drives probably don't have program referenced files, so you can move their contents however you want, but programs and their files may need to be reinstalled if drive letters (and therefore file addresses) change.
