No, this does not have a built-in cache.

No, there isn't a cache on this drive... this drive is mainly for backups. You can use it for everything else but it will be slow, as fast as USB3 will allow... Look into SSD drives for caching or if your computer is new enough you can utilize Intel's 16 GB NVMe™ Intel® Optane™ Memory for storage acceleration is awesome!!!
