• The Seagate Backup Plus Hub 8tb External Usb 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive does need to be connected to your network via a computer to be accessed wireless.

• Even though your question is 2 months old, you could also connect the drive to your router's usb port. If you have this and you do this, no particular computer ever has to be on to access it. Any computer on your network could access it.
