A:Answer Actually, There should be a list of compatible drives. You can't go wrong with Seagate. However, while an external SSD is better for transfer rates, you can use an HDD, but strictly for storage to move games on and off the system. You won't be able to play and Series X/S games from it, but it may play backwards compatible titles. Recommendation is to stick to an SSD external if you can, but if cost and storage is your only requirements, feel free to connect a WD 4 TB HDD to it as long as it meets the correct USB 3.1 (Gen 2) standard or 3.0.
