• Yes, the vacuum can go over carpet and hard flooring.

• It goes over rug edges easily. I have several grade changes room to room with maybe 1" difference and a beveled ramp-like so I don't trip. The shark handles easily. I have several oriental rugs with long fringe. One is in the open and it has no trouble. The other is close to a wall and the shark's side spinners get tangled in the fringe. I use a boundary strip on that edge to stop it.
