The right answer is YES, the light turns ON when door is open. And it also turns ON when unit is working. This seems to be, probably, a most frequently asked question with countertop microwaves. Unfortunately, the Sharp representative gave incorrect answer twice. Good job with demoting your products! I wouldn't buy this microwave, if Best Buy employee would not go an extra mile, pulling display model to closest power outlet, just to prove that the light comes ON indeed.

I have no idea what the deal is with the incorrect information from the Sharp representative and they are indeed devaluing their product. I'm hoping multiple owners countering that comment help to make it clear to prospective buyers. This Sharp microwave has an interior light that comes on both when the door is open AND while it is operating. I can't speak to earlier models, but rest assured, as long as you are buying it in late 2017 or 2018 you will have these functionalities. Also, you can verify this most other places this is sold as this question is constantly asked by consumers.
