Hello, please be advised that it is necessary to fill the water tank for all functions.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Definitely. There is nothing that stops the oven when the tank is empty, and there is no reminder. You can even just pop-out the tank if you want... though a little water may remain. We have run it "dry" on purpose, and by accident many, many times. Oddly, it is not a "steamer". It doesn't work like a steamer, and it does not cook like a steamer. It is basically a combi-oven. The steam is ALWAYS superheated... even when you set the dial to WARM 160F. It may seem strange to think of steam so hot that you could burn your toast - but that's how it works. The steam enters the chamber at 250F... well above boiling point. Then it is "bath tub rules." Put a little SUPER hot water in a bathtub of cool water, and you get a reasonable bath at a predictable temperature. Put a little superheated steam in the oven cavity, and you can achieve temperatures from 160F - 480F. Don't think soggy steamed broccoli. Sheet Pan dinners. 480F is hotter than you would roast chicken breasts or bake cookies, or bacon. Truthfully, you never WANT it to run dry. The superheated steam is one of the reasons why it cooks so well.
