You can not enter codes. It tries to learn from an original temote by putting the two remotes head to head and pushing the buttons.

The sideclick is programed by learning from the tv remote...so u can probably do the same thing with the universal remote..example press the channel button on the universal remote while simultaneously by pressing the up/down arrow on the sideclick..
