Basic operation of the system does not require a smartphone. But paired with Interactive Monitoring, you can use the SimplISafe Smartphone app to arm and disarm your system remotely. That does require an iPhone or Android phone to function.
A:AnswerSimpliSafe will provide the needed chip. The original chip with the purchase did not function well in our area and they provided a chip for Verizon. Its as simple as unplugging the old chip and board and plugging in the new one.
