Most likely because 2.4 travels farther. You should have 2.4 on your router.

Please try again later.I believe SimpliSafe has stated that their rationale for using 2.4 GHz is that this frequency is better able to penetrate structures (like walls) than 5 GHz. In other words, it is a more stable platform for a remote camera and will result in fewer of those aggravating disconnects. I've been using this camera now for a couple of months, and it is very stable. I'm quite satisfied with it.
