“My existing thermostats are old 120v thermostats. How much additional will it cost me to install a smart thermostat? I believe all of the smart thermostats are 24v? I'm assuming that I'll also need to purchase and install a 120v - 24v transformer?”

Found this on the internet hope it helps: I ended up going to Home Depot and picking up a Honeywell step-down transformer. The model number is AT72D1006. It steps down the 120v to 24v. The picture on the HD website is incorrect. The transformer is mounted to a 4" box plate cover, perfect for my situation. ** Turn off power to the 120v circuit before working ** ** Make sure you wire the Transformer correctly. If you wire it backwards it will step 120v up to 600v. Please try again later.I have a Nest, MSRP is $249, not an expert when it comes to the voltage of a thermostat but I don't believe they are 120v, the Nest, and I'm sure the others too, comes with a schematic showing were to place the wires and if you need all of them, you may be able to download it from their website and then look at your specific thermostat.
