  • QuestionIt is safe to use it over tattoos?

    Asked by Brens.

    • Answer No – SmoothSkin is not suitable for use on tattoos. The ink may attract the light, causing it to be absorbed by the skin and not the hair. This can potentially injure the skin, and also damage the tattoo.

  • QuestionI am trying to buy safety goggles for this product. what is the wavelength of the laser/ or what type of laser is it?

    Asked by Matt.

    • Answer Hello, SmoothSkin IPL devices are ocular safe and do not require you to wear safety goggles. There is a built-in UV filter to protect users from harmful light. SmoothSkin uses IPL / Intense Pulsed Light which is safer than laser.

  • QuestionCan this be used on melanated skin?

    Asked by Lady.

    • Answer SmoothSkin devices can be used safely on Fitzpatrick skintones 1-5. IPL is not suitable to treat Fitzpatrick skin tone 6. This is all down to the way in which the technology itself works. IPL is not suitable for dark skin because it contains high amounts of melanin. High levels of melanin in the skin can compete with that in the hair shaft. This can potentially injure the skin. All SmoothSkin devices are fitted with sensors to ensure that they do not fire on unsuitable skin tones. Please check our skin tone chart in the From The Manufacturer section of this page for more info.

  • QuestionDoes this work for men? I am looking to use it around the face area which includes forehead, cheeks, and jaw.

    Asked by Jaden.

    • Answer SmoothSkin Pure absolutely works on male body hair, just remember that whereas women can use SmoothSkin devices from the cheekbones down, we advise men to treat from the neck down only. SmoothSkin is not recommended for use on the male face or beard. The depth and thickness of this type of hair need to be targeted with a much higher level of energy to be effective, which means SmoothSkin is unlikely to produce the desired results. Hair density on the male face is also very high, and so there’s a chance of burns being induced by the device.

  • QuestionI don’t have a lot of hair on my body as far as chest and arms. Would my treatment take the standard 12 weeks or will it be shorter? My body hair isn’t thick/coarse either. And does the color of my skin play a role in how many weeks it will take ?

    Asked by BigDawg23.

    • Answer SmoothSkin Pure contains a skin tone sensor to automatically adjust the energy emitted by the device to suit your skin tone. The fairer your skin is, the less melanin it contains and so the more power it can safely tolerate through IPL treatment. If you have dark hair and fair skin, you may see results from as little as 4 weeks, but it’s important to follow the 12 week regime to make sure you target each hair in the right phase of the hair growth cycle for the best results. Please check our skin tone chart in the From The Manufacturer section of this page for more info.

  • QuestionIs it safe to use for my 12 year old daughter

    Asked by LaGabiota.

    • Answer We don’t recommend individuals under the age of 18 use SmoothSkin IPL devices. Our devices haven't been tested on this age group, and the body undergoes a number of hormonal changes during adolescence, so treatments may be less effective at this time due to rapid hair growth.

  • QuestionWill this work for outside of nose and unibrow?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Do not use SmoothSkin Pure to treat the eyebrows. This is too close to the eye area to safely use IPL treatment. IPL can be used to treat the female face, including the cheeks, chin, jaw and upper lip, however it is not suitable for treating the male face or beard. The outside of the nose may be difficult to treat because the device's skin contact sensors will need to be in full contact with the skin to activate. The angle of this area may make this difficult, and without full contact with the skin the device will not flash for safety reasons. It is also important to not attempt to treat the inside of the nose.

  • QuestionCan this system be used for men who also have thick body hair? Is it safe to be used throughout a mans body?

    Asked by TheMan.

    • Answer Absolutely, yes. Of course! SmoothSkin devices are not gender specific. Just remember that whereas women can use SmoothSkin devices from the cheekbones down, we advise men to treat from the neck down only. SmoothSkin is not recommended for use on the male face or beard. The depth and thickness of this type of hair need to be targeted with a much higher level of energy to be effective, which means SmoothSkin is unlikely to produce the desired results.
