QuestionCompatable with Bose Acoustimass system?I have a 18 year old Bose home theater system hardwired in through the walls, and need a new receiver. Is it possible to use the Bose system with this receiver? I think the old receiver has the Bose speaker wires both into and out of it, instead of HDMI connections. Is there a way to make this work, or do I need to buy an older model receiver with enough speaker jacks?

- Answer HDMI conections are designed to receive a/v signal from any device and one of them is to connect a TV to the Onkyo device. It can be perfectly hardwired with any bose speaker system, no matters how old it is. It has two front, two sorround, one center and two subwoofer outputs, plus a line output for a secondary zone. It may be more than you actually need =)

QuestionI only want to hook up a CD player and speakers - no TV. Can I do that and how?Can I just plug in my CD player and speakers and use it, or I am I required to hook this thing up to a TV to set it up?

QuestionRCA CablesI have 2 devices that use the HMDI cables and one with RCA cables. the RCA will let sound come through but no picture. what am I doing wrong?

- Answer Along with the Red and White RCA cables for the LR audio, you also need to plug a third RCA into the yellow RCA video output jack to pipe the video over to your monitor.

- Answer Hello Missouri : Are you trying to watch surround sound from your TV or cable box through HDMI cables? Push the HOME button, select "watch" and make sure you have the correct input button for the HDMI channel you are using. If that's not it, try HOME: settings and try try each of the 5 different types of settings manually. As a last resort, click on sound effects and try out the 5 types of sound fields.

- Answer You can use typical speaker wire for the connections. The little red and black knobs loosen and reveal a slot to slide in stripped-end bare wire of any standard speaker wires. There is a different kind of connector you can use, but that is just an option.

- Answer Possibly if it has blue tooth capabilities. But otherwise you will need a receiving base to plug into an audio input on the receiver.

- Answer I do not believe it is. The BestBuy site does not specify either way, but other sites that sell audio components and list this model indicate that it may not be 2.2 compliant. I would research this with Sony to make sure.

- Answer It depends on what kinds of video outputs your components have. This has four HDMI inputs, one RCA component, and one coaxial input, plus two optical inputs. So, if you have a bunch of older components with standard RCA video outputs, then you are going to have a problem. But if you have components for audio with RCA outputs, then the receiver should be able to handle three. You really need to have someone knowledgeable help you with this.

- Answer That will depend on a number of settings for the speakers you may have set up. You will need to consult the owners' manual for this, something detailed.

QuestionWhy does audio out on hdmi intermittently cut out?I have this unit driving speakers throughout the house, but for tv I just want to pass the audio out through hdmi. Hdmi output is set to audio + video. What else needs to be configured? Audio mostly works out hdmi, but keeps cutting out (speakers continue to work when audio drops on hdmi). Config error or defective unit?

QuestionSetting up A/B switching for 2 audio zonesThe best buy web site indicates that you can set up 2 audio zones. I have a home theater in my family room (a 5/1 config) and I have 2 outdoor speakers on my deck to play music outside.I do not see a good description of how to do this in the manual. can anyone explain how this is done?
