Stereo sound from the TV will be easy but connecting older video equipment may require a converter/switch. Audio can be achieved via a 3.5 mm to RCA cable to your stereo reciever. This will capture all sound from the TV including the smart apps. If your DVD/VHS combo has RCA connections (red, white and yellow) you will be all set as there is one classic RCA connection. I have attached a pic from the manual that looks like your set-up.
