In the TV's settings, you can set an external device to be the primary input source upon powering up the TV rather than launching Android TV at power up.

Since you didn't explain what the zillion choices were, I assume you are set to the apps input from when you first set up your TV. Hope this helps, smart TV's are like children, they have to told what you want them to do.
